Jadon Sancho, a striker who had a feud with the manager at Manchester United (Man U), has moved to Chelsea, a rival club in the English Premier League (EPL).

Chelsea announced on their website on the 31st of last month (local time) that they had acquired Sancho. As a loan transfer, Sancho will be playing in a Chelsea uniform this season.

"London is where I grew up and I'm happy to be back," Sancho said through the club. "The manager explained his vision to me and it was an exciting story for a young player like me."

Although an English player, Sancho made his professional debut in Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and stood out by being named Bundesliga Player of the Month three times and selected for the Best 11 of the season twice.

Then, in July 2021, he put on the Manchester United uniform for a huge transfer fee of 73 million pounds (about 120 billion won).

However, his performance fell short of expectations, recording only 9 goals and 6 assists in 58 EPL games.

A bigger problem than the poor performance was the discord with Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.

Ahead of the away match against Arsenal in the 4th round of the EPL 커뮤니티 last September, manager Ten Hag left Sancho out of the squad. He also said that the reason was his poor performance in training.

Sancho then wrote on social media, "I've been training really well this week. There's another reason I wasn't called up for the game. I've been a scapegoat for a long time," sparking a backlash from manager Ten Hag and the club's leadership.

The club demanded an apology from Sancho, but he refused and was eventually kicked out of the first team.

Sancho, who had not played in a real match for a while and only trained individually, had a difficult time leaving Manchester United by being loaned to his former team Borussia Dortmund in January of this year.

Afterwards, Dortmund attempted to permanently sign Sancho. However, local media reported that Manchester United set the transfer fee for Sancho too high, so the move to Dortmund fell through.

Sancho's contract with Manchester United runs until 2026. The two sides, unable to travel together due to personal reasons, looked for a new club to take Sancho in, and Chelsea approached him.

According to Football London, Chelsea have reportedly included a clause in their contract that would allow them to sign Sancho on a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal if they finish in the top 14 in the 2024-2025 season.

There is a slim chance that Chelsea, who finished sixth last season, will drop below 15th place, meaning Sancho will have to return to Manchester United to continue their 'uncomfortable cohabitation'.

Chelsea, led by new manager Enzo Maresca, suffered a 0-2 defeat to defending champions Manchester City in the opening match, but exploded for six goals against Wolverhampton in the second round to win 6-2.
